For mac users who use Jamf Connect to log into their computer, there are two recommended ways to change your password. One is through the Jamf Connect App on your device, and the other is through your Microsoft account in any browser. This article will detail how to use Jamf Connect to change your password, or how to sync your device password if you’ve changed it via your Microsoft account instead. For information on how to use Microsoft to change your password, see Change your password using Microsoft 365.
Changing Your Password Using Jamf Connect
The Jamf Connect App can be found in the top right of your desktop near your clock. Click the icon to get the drop down menu options. If Change Password is not showing, hit Relaunch to refresh the App and Change Password should appear. Click it.
A sign in window should appear. Log in with your full campus email and your current password.
The next window will have a place for you to enter your current password again (old password) and will ask you to enter your new password twice. Then hit Submit.
You should then see a summary of your Microsoft profile once the change is accepted. Hit the Done button at the very bottom, and a new window will pop up telling you sign into Jamf Connect again to complete the change. Hit OK.
The Jamf Connect app should pop up asking for a log in after only a few minutes at most. Sign in here using your new password.
It will then ask for your old password which is still associated with the local account on the computer. Hit Sync, and it will update the local password as well.
Your Microsoft password and your local computer password will now both be updated and matching. Your other apps and services will still prompt for the new password and multifactor authentication once each.
Resyncing Your Device Password Using Jamf Connect
If you’ve changed your password using the instructions outlined in Change your password using Microsoft 365, you will still need to update your local computer account to match. In the Jamf Connect App drop down menu, select Resync Password.
You will likely get an error as the app attempts to log you in using your old password. This is fine, just hit OK and log in with the new password.
It will notify you that your local and network accounts do not match and will ask for your old password. Hit Sync, and it will update the local computer password as well.
Your Microsoft password and your local computer password will now both be updated and matching. Your other apps and services will still prompt for the new password and multifactor authentication once each.
