Faculty members should make their expectations for assignment submission clear in their syllabus and review this information with students. Examples of this type of information may include a specific naming convention for files, specific programs to use, or whether you prefer all submissions to be given to you on paper in class or via Sakai or some other option. It can also be helpful to include information on where students can find help if they have questions about submission requirements.
See some examples below that may be helpful:
Example 1:
Assignments are always due at the beginning of class on the day noted. You should print a copy of your assignment and bring it to class with you. Students have free, unlimited black & white printing through JayPrint. If you have questions about using JayPrint please read the FAQs through the ITS Help Desk here, https://washjeff.happyfox.com/kb/section/35/. If you need help beyond what's provided in the online help articles, please open a help ticket with our ITS department at https://support.washjeff.edu.
Printed assignments should be single-sided and include your name and the title of the assignment in the upper right corner. If your submission is more than one page, please staple the pages together.
Example 2:
Assignments are always due by 11:59pm on the day noted and should be submitted via the Sakai Drop Box. Assignments need to be completed using Microsoft Word. No assignments submitted using Google Doc or Pages or any other file type will be accepted. As a W&J student you have free access to the Microsoft Office Suite. You can find instructions for accessing and installing those programs here, https://washjeff.happyfox.com/kb/article/24-install-office-365-on-a-windows-or-mac-computer/. If you need further assistance learning how to submit a file to the Sakai Drop Box tool, read this: https://sakai.screenstepslive.com/s/sakai_help/m/114554/l/1629217-how-do-students-add-items-to-the-drop-box. If you need help beyond what's provided in the online help articles, please open a help ticket with our ITS department at https://support.washjeff.edu.
Example 3:
In order to complete the assignments in this course you will need consistent and reliable access to a computer and the internet. The minimum skills you will need should include the ability to: organize and save electronic files, check your W&J email account, send files using your W&J email account, use Sakai (W&J course management system), and download and upload documents to and from your computer. If you aren't confident in these skills, let me know so I can connect you with resources on campus that can help you develop these skills. If you need access to a computer there are various computer labs on Campus that are available for your use in Burnett, Swanson, the Tech Center, and the Clark Family Library.
